Obituary of John "Jack" Murray Kyle
JOHN “JACK” MURRAY KYLE, P.Eng
April 9, 1931 – May 17, 2017
With great sadness, we announce that on Wednesday May 17, 2017 after a brief illness, Jack passed away peacefully at his home in Toronto, surrounded by family. Born in Winnipeg, Jack was the only child of Donald C. Murray Kyle and Gladys Colton Kyle. Predeceased in 1997 by Joan, his wife of 40 years, he is survived by his Step-Daughters Leslie Worts (John) and Lisa Rowland (Jim) all of Collingwood; Grandchildren Jennifer (Scott), Shelby (Shawn), Christopher (Kristin), and Geoffrey (Vicki); Great-grandchildren Anderson, Cooper, Camden, Holly and Ryan; Godsons Craig and Brent Stait-Gardner.
Jack Graduated in Electrical Engineering from The University of Manitoba in 1953. While at university he received a commission as a 2nd Lieut. in the Canadian Army Reserve. On graduation, he joined Trans Canada Airlines as a Quality Control Engineer. In 1956, he joined IBM Canada Ltd. as a Systems Engineer in Toronto, moved into sales, and rose to Branch Manager of the Toronto Finance and Insurance Branch.
In 1968 Jack left IBM and joined Systems Dimensions Ltd. in Ottawa as Vice President, Marketing, Planning and Computer Services. In 1974, he moved back to Toronto as Vice President Systems at SDI associates Ltd. He joined The Bank of Montreal in 1979 where he was Vice President Central Region Domestic Operations. Jack retired from BMO in 1996.
Jack was a forty-consecutive year member of the Toronto Board of Trade. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Military Institute. He was a founding member and strong advocate of The Punch Card Preservation Society, a group who were with IBM Canada in the 50’s and 60’s and that still meets regularly today.
Jack had a keen interest in all sports, especially the Toronto Blue Jays where he had seasons tickets behind the Blue Jay dugout. He was an avid curler a founding member of the Royals Curling Club, where he served as President. Jack was also a past president of the Ontario Curling Association. He was a keen golfer and a member of the Board of Trade Golf Club in Woodbridge.
Jack was much-loved by his family. He was thoughtful and generous to them and was a wonderful friend to his friends, setting an example for all of us. His great friend Chris Stait-Gardner was a source of strength and love as Jack’s health failed. We would also like to thank Millie Gilmour for her grace, calm, and management during an extremely sad time.
A gathering of family and friends will be held at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME - A.W. MILES CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue), on Thursday, June 15th from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. A private family interment will follow. If desired, donations in his memory can be made to The Georgian Triangle Humane Society, the Canadian Wildlife Federation, or The Scott Mission.
