Obituary of Evan Leuty
Passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Muskoka Regional Health Centre Bracebridge, in his 88th year. Spouse to Deanne (nee Conacher). Loving father of Jane (Henri Audet), David (Stefanie), and the late Kevin. Beloved Granddad to Ashley and Blair and cherished Papi to Tristan and Tessa. Brother to the late Robert (Bob) and William (Bill).
Born in Toronto in 1929, Evan attended Forest Hill Collegiate and went on to become a champion goaltender with the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. Hockey was his first passion, but throughout his life Evan was an avid sportsman and outdoor enthusiast. Evan was a founding member of Devil’s Glen Country Club and a skilled fisherman. He was a committed member of the Granite Club tennis community and loved his Toronto Blue Jays.
Loyal to his friends and career, Evan’s work life was dedicated to one enterprise. He began his career with McCord Ready Mix Concrete and retired from Lafarge Canada Inc. 42 years later.
For almost 50 years, Evan devoted his time and energy to Community Living Belleville and Area (formerly known as Plainfield Children’s Home). He was elected as a Director of the Board of Governors in June of 1969, serving as President from 1985 to 1988. Evan retired from the Board of Governors in 2014 and was awarded an honourary life membership. His longstanding service helped to raise awareness and improve the quality of life and care for developmentally challenged children and their families.
The family would like to thank the staff at Muskoka Shores Care Community in Gravenhurst and, in particular, his caregiver Joelle Mortimer, as well as his nephew Michael Leuty (Diane), all of whom worked tirelessly to help make Evan’s days a little brighter.
The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (South of Davisville) on Wednesday, March 8th from 5:30 - 8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, March 9th at 11 o’clock in ST. JOHN’S ANGLICAN CHURCH, YORK MILLS, 19 Don Ridge Drive, Toronto. If desired, donations to Community Living Belleville and Area, 91 Millennium Parkway, Belleville, Ontario, K8N 4Z5, would be appreciated. Condolences, photographs and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
