Obituary of Paul Roman
Paul Michael Adrian Roman
Peacefully passed away with his wife Claudia by his side, on Monday February 6, 2017, at 4:25 p.m. Paul was 62 years of age. Despite his courageous three-year battle with cancer, he continued his deep sea research offshore Newfoundland, as recently as August 2016.
Paul was a true lover of the sea, an adventurer and an explorer. He enjoyed deep sea fishing on his boat 'Streetgang' with close friends, scuba diving throughout the Caribbean Islands, and searching the oceans for ancient ship wrecks.
In Egypt, he rode camels in Giza to admire the Pyramids and the Sphinx, and he visited the Tombs in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor.
Paul climbed Mount McKinley in Alaska and Aconcagua in Argentina with his Texas buddies. Paul enjoyed many reckless fun adventures in Arizona with his best friend Bruce Boyden.
An appreciation of the Japanese culture led to a life-long passion of collecting rare Japanese swords.
Paul loved entertaining his family and friends with his culinary skills, especially the traditional Slovak family recipe, Halushki.
He lived his life to the fullest, sharing his time and his generosity with many.
He is survived by his wife Claudia Arena-Roman, his two sons Luke Roman and James Roman, who meant the world to him. He was the brother of Helen, the late Angela Maria Roman, and Stephen (Janine), Peter (Patty), David (Clare), and Anicka (Ron); and the beloved uncle of nieces Adrienne (Lindsay), Abianna, Kristina and Pascale and nephews Tommy (Carrie), Daniel, Matthew, Mark, Stephen, Nicolas, Gabriel and Julian. He will also be missed by his extended family and dear friends in the Bahamas, the Cayman Islands, the United States, Australia, Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Ontario.
He was the beloved son of Betty Roman and the late Stephen B. Roman.
Funeral service will be held at the Cathedral of the Transfiguration in Markham, Ontario at 1:00 p.m. on Friday February 17, with visitation at 12 noon.
Special thanks to the Medical Day Unit, Markham Stouffville Hospital, and Dr. Lena Hajra, for her professional dedication, warmth and support.
Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Andrew Patterson and his amazing nurses, Jackie Wu and Jennifer Brisebois, whose attentiveness and patience made Paul's last days as comforting as possible.
