I was very sorry to hear of Don's passing.
What a gentleman.
We met over lunch when both our offices were in First Canadian Place.
Yes we knew he as a lawyer, but never one to display his accomplishments. He had his soda water, cannot drink when working,his sandwich talk about the subjects of the day.
But, he empathized with the people around him and if they had a problem he absorbed the information and quietly worked with them to resolve the problem.
He loved his work, his family and his profession.
Many of us who met Don over those lunches will miss him.
It was always interesting to walk on the street with him to see his encyclopedic memory of all the politicians from either party he knew.
Don, you will be missed.

Dear Shanon and Family,
It is with great sorrow that I read of Don's passing in the Globe.
As the Hon.Norman Cafik's Principal Assistant in Ottawa I was fortunate to get to know Don and had a great deal of contact with him while he served as a legal counsel and advisor to Norm.There were many memorable discussions with Don and I will never forget his contagious smile and good humor.
To you his family maintain your memories of Don, cherish them, and celebrate his life and that which he brought to each of you !

Penny and I were very sorry to hear about Don's passing. We first met in the Liberal back rooms forty-five years ago when Don was raising funds for our good friend, the late Norm Cafik. Penny worked in Norm's office after my election in 1974 so we obviously used to see Don a lot. He was a serious and dedicated participant in the democratic process but always approachable, genial and good natured. I shall always remember his infectious smile which lit up a room and put people at ease. We bumped into each other about a year ago and the smile and sincerity were still there after all those years. I know he was a very respected member of the legal profession, a dedicated family man and a proud Canadian. We extend our deep sympathy to Shanon and family but rejoice in a life so well led.
We regret that we can not attend Don's funeral tomorrow but we shall be there in spirit.

Russ and I came to Vic together…startled to find ourselves university students since we had no idea where we we’re going on life’s journey. Never thought of ti…full attention to girls, football and classes in that order. Russ and I married Vic room mates…Marjorie Hughes and Anne Hilliard. Don married Mary Jane Affleck. Those were our halcyon days.

Dear Deborah, Don and families:
I am sorry to see your dad has passed on. Please accept my condolences at this sad time. I have many fond memories of your dad living beside you and growing up on Pinehurst - especially babysitting you both whilst your parents attended their favourite football games in Hamilton. Latterly, while I was working downtown, we would pass each other whilst traveling an escalator or rushing quickly through the TD underground walkway, he would warmly smile at me, waving. My sincere condolences on Don's passing. My office was next to Don's for many years and we started Kelly Affleck Greene with six other partners in 1992. That was such a daunting adventure but Don was solid as granite throughout. I will remember his booming voice and straight head approach to work and life. He was a talented and well respected lawyer and a fine gentleman.
