Obituary of Matthew "Joe" Joseph Haffey

<p><strong>MATTHEW JOSEPH HAFFEY, Q.C.</strong></p> <p><strong>MAY 12, 1923 &ndash; DECEMBER 14, 2016</strong></p> <p><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p> <p>Matthew Joseph &ldquo;Joe&rdquo; died peacefully at home in Toronto on Wednesday, December 14, 2016, in his 94<sup>th</sup> year.&nbsp; Loving husband for nearly 65 years to his wife Barbara.&nbsp; Caring and kind father to Joe, Kelly Anne (John MacRae), Dan (Helen) and Sam (Sarah Rocchi).&nbsp; Dear Poppy to Gregory, Samantha and Jennifer Durrell; Sean and Sarah Haffey; and Fiona Rocchi and Weston Haffey.&nbsp; Dear son of the late Dr. Matthew Joseph Haffey and Gertrude Gibson and brother of the late James, Irene and Paul Haffey.&nbsp; Uncle to Tim, Peter (Roula), Paula (Warren) and Nancy (John). The family sends a heartfelt thanks to Dr. Victor Hoffstein, St. Michael&rsquo;s Hospital (Department of Respirology), and to Dr. Sandy Buchman, Temmy Latner Centre for Palliative Care.&nbsp; Also, the family deeply appreciates the kindness of his support workers Yamuna and Nahid.&nbsp; Joe was born in Toronto on May 12, 1923.&nbsp; He practiced law in Toronto for over 50 years.&nbsp; He graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in the Class of 1949 and a life member of the Law Society of Upper Canada.&nbsp; Prior to that he served in the Royal Canadian Air Force as an Air Gunner from 1942 until 1945.&nbsp; The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES &ndash; NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) on Sunday, December 18<sup>th</sup> from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.&nbsp; Mass of Christian Burial in ST. ANSELM&rsquo;S CHURCH, 1 MacNaughton Road, on Monday, December 19<sup>th</sup> at 10:30 a.m.&nbsp; Interment Mount Hope Cemetery.&nbsp; If desired, in Joe&rsquo;s memory, donations may be made to St. Michael&rsquo;s Hospital, Respirology Department, 30 Bond Street, Toronto, Ontario M5B 3H4.</p>
