Joe - Very sorry to learn about your dad's passing. The war and a fine legal career - he was certainly one of the "greatest generation". I'm sorry I never knew him. Please accept my condolences. JIM LUTZ (CWRT)

Dear Barb, Joe, Kelly Anne, Dan and Sam:
I'm so sorry to hear of Joe's death. I have many happy memories of him and your family during the many years you were on Beechwood Island. Your Dad had a wonderful sense of humour and I always enjoyed spending time with him.
The world is a poorer place without Liz's "handsomest man on the island".
I'm sorry I won't be able to attend his funeral and pass on my condolences in person.

My sincere condolences to the Haffey family on Joe's passing.
I had the good fortune and pleasure to article with Joe in 1957 (Haffey and Sherwood).
Joe was very kind and considerate to me, and gave me wise advise and good experience.
I subsequently practiced with Joe's friends - Bud Leake and John Bassel.
Best personal regards,
Ron Romanick

Dear Barb, Joe Jr., Danny, Kelly, Sam and families,
Joanne and I wish to extend to you our heartfelt sympathies for your tragic loss. Barb, you have lost a husband. Joe, Danny, Kelly and Sam, you have lost a father. I have lost my best friend. Yes, we will grieve, but also we must rejoice as we reflect on the many, many years that this wonderful man was with us. Joe graced this earth for 93, almost 94 years. We have all been very fortunate.
I first met Joe in 1956 and for the next 25 years I got to know Joe and the rest of you very, very well. As I remember it, Joe and I through the years would meet two and three times a week for lunch. Our favourite dining spots were the Men's Grill at the Arcadian Court, The Westbury Hotel and the Hot Stove Lounge at Maple Leaf Gardens. We would discuss the problems of the world, politics and the progress, or lack of it, that each of our children was making in their respective schools.
When Joanne and I were married 40 years ago Joe was our Best Man. The title was never more apt. Joe was possessed of a marvellous wit and wisdom and he could keep me entertained for hours. Then there were the summers when year after year our families enjoyed the Port Severn area, swimming, boating, waterskiing, fishing and of course, some flying. These were wonderful years. The memories will stay with me forever.
For many years now, the miles have separated us, but distance has not diminished our friendship whatsoever. We have constantly been in touch by telephone and e-mail and we have never stopped solving the problems of the world.
I have always considered Joe to be the quintessential Christian. No man was ever more devoted to his family, his faith and his friends. Matthew (Joe) Haffey is now in Heaven. I pray that one day we will meet again.
love to you all.
Mickey Stevenson, Victoria, B.C.
