Jim and I, Joan's condo neighbours, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family in this time of sadness. It was a gift that Joan was able to stay in her safe place and rest peacefully in an environment that she was comfortable in for many years. As a family, you provided her with everything she needed in order to do this. May you have many fond memories that will see you through this time of grief and help you all move forward as time passes.
With respect,
Bev and Jim Strachan

Dear Jane, David Jeff, and all those you love,
Ever since learning of your mother’s passing, we have been reminiscing about our long relationship with you and your folks. It goes back 60 years (!) to when your mom and Beth were nursing classmates at the Ottawa Civic Hospital. When your dad was a student at Queens, your mom wanted to go from Ottawa to Kingston to attend a dance there with him. She talked Beth into going too, and arranged for your dad’s friend, Ed, to be a blind date for her! Luckily for Bernie’s future, that date did not go any further!
It was a happy reunion when you all moved to Winnipeg. We were so fortunate to be able to exchange Christmas dinners and meet on many other occasions. We always remember that you “kids” were consummate hosts. Bernie was delighted when you became students at St. John’s-Ravenscourt.
Following your parent’s move back east, we had warm visits with them in Toronto and Lakefield. It was an added pleasure to be guided around your mom’s special quilt store in Peterborough. The telephone became a continuing connection for their and family news.
Laura remembers that when she was seventeen, she had a summer job at the Nutty Club candy factory. The Burt’s, who owned the company, used to live at the end of our bay. Your mom and dad kindly cared for Laura while we Sue and Elaine were on our traditional summer holidays visiting family in Montreal and Ottawa. She used to bike from your home on Elm Street (?) in River heights to the plant downtown. She also said that since Elvis Presley had died that summer, the older ladies on the assembly line played his music all day, every day! Is that event also in your memories?
These are only some of the very fond memories we have of you three and your mom and dad; always to be cherished.
We send all our love,
Beth, Bernie and Laura Beare
