My condolences to Elda and family. I met Ted McDowell on a few occasions but my father (Douglas Peters) worked with him for 25 years at the TD Bank. My father said many nice things about Ted. My father died a month before Ted died so he is not able to write these condolences himself.

Elda and family: There were 2 bankers that I considered true gentlemen and the most honest and approachable people I have ever known - Allan Lambert and Ted McDowell. Over the years that I knew Ted, he was always available to listen and counsel and he was one shrewd credit man as well. While Edie and I are unable to attend the funeral, our thoughts will be with you all. Weren't we all lucky to have had Ted as part of our lives.

Ted was vice chair when I was in various positions. Especially in my first role at TD as spokesperson for the bank, from 1983-1990, he was a wonderful resource, in explaining any number of issues - so I could feel confident (or mostly at least) in my knowledge of what I was talking about! Ever the gentleman, with an office door that seemed to be always open, Ted was available to chat, happy to help, and responsive when we often didn't have a lot of time. While it was hard, at least initially, not to be intimated by his title, he treated everyone the same, with respect and kindness. Lovely man.

Ted worked with my Dad, Ben Bracewell, for many years in the Hallowed Halls of Head Office of the TD Bank. They had a tremendous mutual regard and lots of laughs. I am very sorry to hear of Ted's passing and extend condolences to Elda and family. Who knows, they may already be writing up credit deals in the great hereafter!

Heather and I send out sincere sympathy to Elda and family.
Ted and I worked together at TD Bank for 25 years. Those years produced good results and happy memories. Just the other day, a customer called to tell me about how Ted helped him buy a business that became very successful. Good bankers do help a lot of people. In good economic times, it appears an easy job running risk management but during the 1980s with oil, the Canadian dollar and interest rates moving up and down in large numbers, it was not at all easy. However, during the 1980s, TD had the best performing loan portfolio amongst the Canadian banks. Well done Ted!

Our heartfelt sympathy to you Elda and the rest of the family.
We consider ourselves extremely fortunate to have spent time together with the two of you and will miss Ted. Every time we have an icecream cone we think of Ted and that is often! We seemed to have so much in common and we treasure the memories of those times we got together. Ted achieved so much in life and yet was a down to earth human being. What a wonderful man.

Dearest Elda and family,
I cannot describe how very sad I am to hear of Ted's passing.
I have had the pleasure of knowing Ted for over 20 years, first as a co-director of Wellspring, where Ted led the organization's survival and growth as Treasurer, and then as a good friend and lunch mate.
I loved to listen to Ted's stories of his business dealings and his family life. He was a raconteur of the very first order, and I was always captivated by his tales, particularly of his incredible life with Elda and their journey to Ontario from from the West.
Ted often spoke proudly of his children, and their children. Ted was one of the kindest, most honest people I have had the pleasure to know and call a friend.
He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
I know he will delight the angels.
My thoughts and prayers are with you,
Marc

Dear Aunt Elda and family, our heartfelt sympathy to all at this time. All the McDowell boys are now gone after spanning a period of 106 year. Quite remarkable. While they might be gone they are all remembered and will continue to be remembered.
Looking at the photo of Uncle Ted I see so many resemblances to Grandma McDowell. Both shared a special kindness that I will always remember. Dad thought very highly of his "little" brother and was so proud of his success and his family. Both Mom and Dad never forgot their visit back east and the kindness you both showed them. They talked about it often and it was certainly a highlight of their life.
I can also remember Dad being so happy to receive Uncle Ted's less used suits and Dad was so proud modelling them for us. As you know Dad liked to be well dressed and would wear a suit almost daily until his stroke. Even then he continued to wear dress pants, dress shirt and well polished shoes. I still have Dad's old shoe shine stand and kit which we keep at the cabin. The suits were certainly well received and well used.
While life for you will certainly be changed you have had the benefit of a long and happy marriage which I am sure has given you many wonderful memories. These will certainly help you through the days ahead. We wish you and your family all the best and once again extend our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts are with you. Rod and Arienne.
