Hello Kadi and family I just happened upon a beautifully handwritten note and card sent to me when my mom, Marie Alexander, passed away in 2007. Asta was such a good friend to my mother. I remember her big smile. I’m so sorry it took this long to send condolences to you all. It’s heartwarming though to know my mother and yours were such close friends.

You're such a wonderful and caring daughter. You often shared your stories about your mother with me in such a loving way. My condolences to Malle, Truuta, Kadi, her god-daughter Tiiu, her nieces and nephews and the whole family. I remember Asta from my Montreal days; I also saw her from time to time in Toronto. I enjoyed chatting with her. She always sparkled with her zest for life and with her incredible stories about what was going on in her life at the time. She told me one day, "You must be wondering why I look so young!" "Yes," I said with curiosity. "Well, it's because I have a boyfriend!" "You do have a glow. You look so happy." It was true. She was beaming. Another time she told me that she was writing her memoir. Others say that - but we never see those memoirs. She got hers published at age 80 (or so) and it shows her incredible memory. It has fine details of her life and of those around her from her childhood onward. In parts it is entertaining, also informative and provides insight into a feisty Estonian immigrant's experiences. I will miss her and our little chats, but I know her family will miss her even more.

I was sorry to hear of "Ema's" passing. I have fond memories of trips to Toronto, staying at the house on Butterworth and practicing my Estonian. I will always remember her translating,"Isa's" jokes- always with a smile on her face! Great times and memories. My deepest sympathies to you all. Michael and family.
