Obituary of Russell John Morrison
<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: center;" align="center"><strong>RUSSELL JOHN MORRISON</strong></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt; text-align: center;" align="center"><strong>1923 - 2016</strong></p>
<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;">Russell passed away peacefully on Monday, October 3, 2016, his wife of 66 years, Katherine, by his side. He is survived by a brother, Davis Morrison, and two sisters, Mary Scrivens and Shirley Dyck; daughters Donna Morrison-Reed and Leslie Sinclair and son Robert Morrison; grandchildren Charlotte Morrison-Reed, Elliot Morrison-Reed, Benjamin Sinclair, Laura Sinclair, Daniel Morrison and David Morrison and one great grandchild, Sebastian Reed.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;">Russell was born and raised in Saskatoon, SK. He attended the Universities of Saskatchewan, Toronto, and Chicago, alternating with time in the Canadian Navy and the federal government. After two years of teaching economics at Vanderbilt University, Russell entered the business world.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;">In 1979 Russell co-founded the Morrison Foundation, which has since focused on support for education in Canada. It has grown over the years and now is under the management of Russell and Katherine’s son Robert.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;">Russell and Katherine were granted honorary LLDs from the University of Toronto in 2004. Russell was appointed to the Order of Canada in 2014.</p>

<p style="margin-bottom: .0001pt;">The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) at 11:00 a.m. on <span class="aqj"><span tabindex="0" data-term="goog_298563950">Friday, October 14</span></span><sup>th</sup> with a reception to follow the service in the Rosedale Room.</p>
