Dear Katherine: my deepest sympathy to you and your family. I so enjoyed meeting both of you many years ago. Your support of the University and the many lovely lunches at the Acadian restaurant were always so pleasant. I was glad to have seen you both in the spring. All the best, Patty McHenry

I offer my deepest condolences to Katherine and the Morrison family over the loss of Russell. I first met Russell and Katherine five years ago when I became the Chief Librarian at the University of Toronto and learned of their efforts to transform the lives of University of Toronto students by creating stunning spaces for students to work and to learn. Russell told me at that first meeting and often reminded me later that “it is about the students.” He believed that providing inspiring and comfortable space for students to learn and to engage in research would make a difference to them for the rest of their lives. As a result of his and Katherine’s vision and their passion for students, we have some of the best library space for students in all of Canada, space that is used by thousands of students every day just as Russell hoped. Current and future generations of students owe Russell and Katherine a deep debt of gratitude. Working with Russell to realize his vision for students has been a great honour and privilege. I always learned from him in every conversation and came away inspired. He was smart, funny and incredibly knowledgeable, and he will be deeply missed.

It is, of course, with sadness that we have heard the news of the passing of Russell, elder brother to Mary and brother- in- law to Robert Scrivens. Over the years we have been grateful for the wise financial counsel Russell has given us, for the hospitality in his and Katherine's home and for family times spent together. Among many other things, the one major attribute we have always felt to be intrinsic to Russell's life and practice was absolute honesty and integrity. We wish to offer to Katherine and members of their family our sincere condolences-Bob and Mary Scrivens

I had the privilege of working under the leadership of Russel in the period !965-1970 in Montreal. Unaware of it at the time, I later realized what a great mentor and teacher that I was fortunate enough to experience.
Condolences to Katherine and Family

Russell was a very supportive friend to the students of University College at the University of Toronto. I had the pleasure of meeting him shortly after I started my term as Principal of the College in 2011. He was brilliant, witty, iconoclastic. He challenged me to ensure that students living in the Morrison Residence at UC had as good an experience as possible, and inspired us both to change the way we distribute residence rooms and to introduce "living learning communities" that allow students to be housed with others who share their interests. We will miss him. On behalf of the students, staff, and faculty at UC, I'd like to offer my condolences to Katherine and the family.
