Obituary of Alfred "Al" Harris

Alfred “Al” Harris, H.L. WW2 RCAF Radar Active CLU for 69 years At Toronto, on Monday, September 26, 2016, after a lengthy and positive illness in his 93rd year. Beloved husband of Phyllis Clifford and the late Olene Webb. Loving father of Brian Harris (Sharon) of Waterloo, Sharon Kreuzer (Darryl) of Edmonton, and Lynn Walters (Craig) of Port Perry. Grandfather of Robert (Andrea), Marty (Marketta), Timothy (Beata), Andrew Harris, Michael and Jason Kreuzer and great-grandfather of Aislinn (Brian), Cailin, Emalyn, Peyton, Spencer, Kyle and Kieran and great-great-grandfather of Henry. Survived by his sister Murial Blandchard and sister-in-law Lois Clifford and numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by seven brothers and six sisters. Al was very proud of his five generation family. He was a member of many organizations. He was a lifetime member of the United Church, seventy years plus member of the Masonic Lodge #97, RCL and Advocis, former Senior Past President Officer (1949) of Barrie Branch #147, District E (1957 – 1959) and Senior Living Vice President of Ontario Command of the Royal Canadian Legion (1959 – 1961). Al was born and raised in Barrie where he served on the Public School Board and was active in community work in Barrie and Toronto for over seventy years. Founding Chairman, Past President and a thirty six year Director of Hospital Special Needs Inc. of Toronto, now the March of Dimes. Al believed “That a person only making a living fails to make a life” and “To love is to care”. The family will receive friends at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue) from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 2nd. A second visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. in LEASIDE UNITED CHURCH, 822 Millwood Road, (and MacRae) followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 3rd. There will be a luncheon from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place at approximately 3:00 p.m. at the Barrie Union Cemetery, 338 Sunnidale Road with the Royal Canadian Legion participating.
