Obituary of Rauni Irene Gillespie
Gillespie, Rauni Irene
Passed away peacefully and gracefully, surrounded by family at her side on Sunday, September 25, 2016 at the age of 88. She was the loving wife of Eric (deceased) and partner of Reg (deceased). Mother to Andrew (Tabitha) and Susan (Don), Nana Rauni to Sabrina (Apostolos), Jacqueline (Roberto) and Michael (Emily), and Great Nana to Leonardo, Athena and Atticus.
Rauni was a free spirit who lived life to the absolute fullest. She loved to travel, having seen all four corners of the globe. Closer to home, she loved going to the movies (it was not unusual for her to go to four a day during TIFF), the Ballet, the Opera, and if there was a new theatre production, regardless if it was in New York, London or locally, there was a good chance she would have a ticket. She was a sports enthusiast, including being a golfer at Lambton Golf and Country Club. She loved to travel to Wimbledon to cheer for her favourite Roger Federer and she immensely enjoyed her afternoons of bridge with her many long time friends. She was an artist, enjoyed her champagne, never had a day go by without chocolate, was a woman who spoke her mind and she had a fabulous sense of humour and style. She also had tremendous generosity for various causes and charities.
As per Rauni's wishes, “no fuss, no muss, no unnecessary sadness.” She said she had a “great life” with no regrets and asked “no fanfare and no service please.” The family is asking that donations be made to The Toronto School of Art or to your favourite theatre group to support the arts which she loved so much. We will all miss her flair and know that all who met her were enriched by her for being part of their life.
