Obituary of Mary Lee Berdit
Mary Lee passed away peacefully on August 31st at the Dunfield Retirement Residence. She was 81. She is survived by her brother Dan Scrimger, and her nephews Richard and David Scrimger, with whom she had a warm relationship. She was a favorite aunt to 8 great-nieces and nephews. A self-effacing personality, Mary Lee rarely spoke of her career, though she was a distinguished teacher of Secretarial Science at Centennial College in Toronto and wrote a text book on the subject. She had a wide range of interests, from travel to barber-shop quartets, and from cooking to knitting to Sherlock Holmes. At home in North Toronto, she was devoted to her cats and her many friends. Following in her own mother’s footsteps, she was an enthusiastic and talented amateur pianist. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her. Film nights at the Dunfield will not be the same without her. A funeral service will be held on Friday, September 9th, 2016 at 1 o’clock at the HUMPHREY FUNERAL HOME A.W. MILES – NEWBIGGING CHAPEL, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville Avenue). Reception to follow in the Rosedale Room. If desired, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Toronto Wildlife Centre 60 Carl Hall Road, Unit 4, Toronto, Ontario, M3K 2C1. Condolences and memories may be forwarded through www.humphreymilesnewbigging.com.
