I am very sad to learn the news of my friend Mary Lee's passing. She has left an indelible mark on my heart. I met Mary Lee as a young boy in Dr. Posas's chiropractic office. Chatting in the wait room, she took an interest in my love for the arts, reading, and theatre. She befriended me. She listened to my stories and we spoke for hours on the phone at a time. She sent me subscriptions for Natlional Geographic for my birthdays! She came to all my high school productions and performances at Theatre@York. She gave me wonderful advice as I embarked on my career in education. She came to my wedding and met my wife. I called her this Christmas and New Year and did not find her at her number. Suspiscion made me Google her name and I sadly found her obituary. My heart is truly broken. I miss my friend very much. I would love to be in touch with someone from her family or her friend whose last name I believe is Dinsmore. RIP Mary Lee! Love you very much! Thank you for always always believing in me! Xoxo Vince

My heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Mary Lee. She was a lovely person with a great sense of humour. I got to know her because my Mother Ann Mills also lived at The Dunfield and shared many lunches at the Bistro with Mary Lee. My siblings and I would often join our Mom for meals and always felt blessed that she had a friend in Mary Lee. She always had a book on the go and an interesting story to share whether about the arts or movies or her cats or current events. And she always greeted Mom with a smile and helped her to find her glasses or remember if she had ordered. My Mom had dementia and was aware she had it so did all she could to hide it. It was a tough three years for Mom there made brighter by her time spent with friends like Mary Lee. Blessings to her and to her loved ones.
Love and Light, Wendy Mills

Mary Lee, we always enjoyed your company during those yearly trips we took with you to Mexico. What fun we had! You never failed to amaze us with your sense of adventure, including the time you went parasailing as a celebration of turning 70. I'm wearing my silver sisterhood ring in your honour and memory. RIP, Mary Lee.

Mary Lee, my piano duet buddy, patiently waiting while I struggled with my secondo part. We listened to Dave Brubeck together, repainted the interior of your little abode in TO and talked sports cars and cats. Another page in our lives has turned. Goodbye lady friend!

In the fall of 1970, I enrolled at Centennial College in Secretarial Sciences. I was most fortunate to be in Mrs. Berdit's typing and shorthand classes. Not too many weeks passed when I found myself in hospital suffering from a kidney stone attack. I remained in hospital for two weeks and fell behind in my classes. Mrs. Berdit was at once very sympathetic and also concerned that I make up for lost time, especially in regards to learning Pitman shorthand. I confirmed my desire to continue in her classes and so she took me under her wing, spending extra time with me and always being very encouraging as I struggled to make up for lost time. By Christmas I was feeling pretty confident in my progress and by spring I had secured a full-time position at Procter & Gamble. I enjoyed a wonderful career as a secretary and executive administrator and I owe a debt of gratitude to Mrs. Berdit for her skill as a teacher, her belief in my ability and for instilling in all her students an understanding of what it meant to be a professional . To this day I still use Pitman shorthand to take messages and jot down quick notes, and have thought often of my wonderful teacher. Mrs. Berdit was vivacious, intelligent, thoughtful and always professional. On a lighter note, I recall the dark, rainy evening she gave my friend Sandy Scott (also one of her students) and me a ride home from college in her very sporty Mustang!
I am very sorry for your loss.
Regards,
Susan Carothers.

Much time has passed since I last saw Mary Lee, but she was always most pleasant when we did. I remember her as a very attractive and amiable person. I hope she had not lingered in illness and discomfort prior to her death. My sincere condolences to Dan and to her nephews and their children and to all those who will miss her presence in their lives.

Mary Lee had the best laugh. I can conjure up that laugh and remember hearing it when we were office mates at Centennial College in the 1970s; when we became neighbours and visited back and forth; when we travelled together as a group of friends to enjoy the beaches in Mexico; and when we continued our friendship over lunches. Mary Lee was adventurous, kind, funny, talented and a good friend. I do and will miss her. My husband Ross Monk joins me in conveying our condolences to Mary Lee's family and friends.

I was saddened to learn of the passing of Mary Lee. I knew her as a member of the Toronto Accolades and we shared a mutual love of music, cooking and theatre. We had lost touch in the last few years but I will remember Mary Lee's beautiful smile, her love of life and her kindness and generosity. We shared many meals together, both out and in her home. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.
