Obituary of William John Stauble

WILLIAM JOHN STAUBLE

Bill died quietly on Sunday, May 22, 2016 in Toronto, at age 88, from the effects of Alzheimer's disease. He will be deeply missed by his wife of almost 65 years, Jean (Rutherford), his children Cynthia Potts, David Stauble, Katherine Stauble and Julie Wood, their spouses Nigel Potts, Maria Ringo, David Devlin and Steven Wood, grandchildren Michael and Madelaine Stauble, Sarah and Claire Devlin and Cameron and James Wood, brothers Richard and Alfred Stauble, and extended family in Canada, the U.S. and Trinidad.

A psychiatrist and psychoanalyst, Bill was passionate about his profession until the end. He was born in Port of Spain, Trinidad, studied medicine at McGill University, Montreal, and trained in psychoanalysis in London, England. In 1965 he was appointed Post-Graduate Director for Psychiatry at the University of Toronto's Clarke Institute (now CAMH), and later Chief of Psychiatry at St. Michael's Hospital. He was a long-time member of the Canadian Psychoanalytic Society. Bill loved spending time with family, listening to music, and tending his garden and trees at Helvetia, the property he shared with Jean north of Cobourg. He loved good books and rich conversation.

The family is thankful for the compassionate and gentle care Bill received at Palisade Gardens in Cobourg, Revera-Leaside Residence, Toronto East General Hospital and Kensington Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating in Bill's name to the Alzheimer Society or a charity of your choice. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at a later date.
