Obituary of Jean Mary Ruth Roberts

née Hughes
February 15, 1930 – May 6, 2023
Jean died peacefully, at North York General Hospital, surrounded by family, at the age of 93. She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Alexander Roberts (Sandy), and her parents, Lt. Col. Elton Richard (Sam) Hughes and Beatrice Hughes. Jean was the mother of Wendy Roberts Lord (John Lord), Ann Roberts (Wisener) and Douglas Roberts (Susan). She was the beloved grandmother to seven; Michelle and Matthew Lord; Alice Wisener (Gordon Hildick-Smith), John Wisener (Katharine) and William Wisener; Christie Negohosian nee Roberts (Rob Negohosian) and Andrew Roberts; and great-grandmother to six: Sophie and Grant Hildick-Smith, David Wisener, Cora, Bobby and Carter Negohosian.
Jean attended St. Clement’s School and The Wellesley Hospital Toronto School of Nursing. She partnered with her husband in their family medical practice for over 30 years as his nurse and office manager. She was a lifetime member of the Granite Club, where she was an avid curler, lawn bowler, tennis player, skater, and a longtime member of Glenview Presbyterian Church (Toronto). For more than 50 years, Jean loved spending summers at her cottage on Chandos Lake, surrounded by family and friends.
The family would like to thank the staff at Amica Bayview Gardens for their support and care of Jean during the last fourteen months of her life.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15. Her funeral service will be held in the Chapel on Tuesday, May 16 at 11:00 a.m. Interment York Cemetery.
