Obituary of Stefan Bohdan Harasym

STEFAN BOHDAN HARASYM

February 3, 1954 – May 7, 2023

With great sadness, peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023 at his sister Lydia’s home.

Born in Curitiba, Parana, Brazil, to parents Helen and Stefan, Stefan came to Canada at the age of four with his siblings Jerry, Walter, Maria and Lydia. He first grew up in the Richmond and Niagara Streets area of Toronto, a predominantly eastern European neighbourhood. When parents Helen and Stefan moved to Larchwood Road, North York, Stefan went to high school at Westview Centennial and then studied Auto Mechanics at Seneca College. He had a passion for fast cars and often told stories of street racing in the early 70s. He was a great Class “A” mechanic with a passion for rebuilding engines. He worked for some small independent shops and, finally, at General Motors dealers. In his later years, he drove a truck for UPS. In his retirement, he spent his days with his loving sister Lydia.

Stefan was a cherished brother survived by sisters Veronika Kruk (Brazil), Maria Gagner and Lydia Bernardo Ciddio. He was predeceased by his brother Walter Harasym, his sister Krystyna Harasym dos Santos (Brazil) and his brother Jaroslaw (Jerry) Harasym. Proud uncle to Walter (Krystyna), Elizabeth (Krystyna), Helena (Krystyna), the late Carlos (Veronika), Rubens (Maria), Jerry Jr. (Jerry), Paul (Jerry), Frank (Lydia), Jason (Walter), the late Jamie (Walter) and many other nieces and nephews. Stefan will be fondly remembered and missed by his friends and family.

Friends and family are welcome to celebrate Stefan’s life at a memorial service that will take place on Wednesday May 17, 2023 at 1:30 p.m. at Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue, East York. A light lunch will be held following the memorial service, with the location to be announced.

Stefan loved animals, especially Lydia’s dogs, Rocky and Dale. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Toronto Humane Society would be greatly appreciated.
