Obituary of Barwell Bennett Dibben

Barwell Bennett Dibben passed away on May 2, 2023 in Toronto at age 88 after a long illness.  Barwell, or Ben to his Canadian friends, was devoted to his wife Shirley and to his children Anne and Roger.  Shirley and Barwell grew up in the same village in southern England and met through bell-ringing. Barwell came to Canada in the early 1960's to work as an actuary and was soon joined by Shirley.  They enjoyed many happy years together in Montreal and Toronto while keeping strong ties to family and friends in England and Australia.  Barwell was the son of Barwell James Dibben and Irene Basson, both deceased; half-brother of Denis Marfleet (Mary), deceased; loving father to Anne (Robert) and Roger; loving grandfather to Serena.  Barwell lived an active and generous life, applying his brilliant mathematical mind to his work as an actuary and to pastimes such as bridge.  He was devoted to his family.  Through his life, he cared for others through volunteer work with veterans, and through outreach programs at his church.  He will be missed by all those whose lives he touched.  A funeral will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W.
