SHAND, Verna Betty (nee Neden)

Betty passed away gracefully on April 25, 2023, with family at her home in Toronto, Ontario, in her 90th year. Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, on May 18, 1933, Betty was predeceased in 1975 by her loving husband Dr. William Shand and raised their children, Susan (Glenn), Bill and James (Gabriela). Betty leaves grandchildren Catherine (Andrew), Savannah, Wes and Dorothy (Radu), great-grandchildren Jay and Sean. Predeceased by her parents Francis Neden and Verna Neden (nee Hedenstrom); siblings June and Laurence.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to many during her lifetime. Our precious Mom loved to help all people and had a natural zest for life, she lived life fully, enduring a remarkable career in fashion and television in the 1950’s, as Canada’s top model. Betty maintained her grace and elegance throughout her entire life. Her incredible positive nature, beautiful smile and magnetic laugh will be deeply missed.

Visitation will be held on April 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. until funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel at the Humphrey Funeral Home, 1403 Bayview Avenue, Toronto. Interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.
