Obituary of David Trevor Carr Moore
DAVID TREVOR CARR MOORE, LLD (Trent)

David Moore, of Toronto, died peacefully, at a time of his choosing, and surrounded by family, on March 24, 2023.
What a fortunate life he led, being born in 1933 before the Depression, and too young to serve in WWII.
David was predeceased by parents, Trevor Frank Moore and Helen Elizabeth Carr, and sister, Nancy Cresswell (Peter) of Sault Ste. Marie.
David graduated from Trinity College, University of Toronto, in 1955. He immediately started his business carerr at McLeod, Young, Weir from which he retired after 36 years in 1989.
On May 5, 1956 David married Joan Archer, the love of his life, and started their married life in Calgary where they made many wonderful friends. They were received into the community lovingly by his manager of the time, Chuck Mawer and his wife Nibs.
Together, David and Joan raised four wonderful children: Trevor (Melissa Michel), Heather (Jim Allan), Scott (Becky Posch) and Gregory (Andrea Cleghorn). He leaves seven loving grandchildren, David, Caitlin, Cameron, Bronwyn, Keighley, Brenna and Fraser, and three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Ellie and Kieran. His family was the centre of his life and he loved presiding over many exotic and Muskoka family holidays – the last one in Kenya with all four generations present.
In 1960, David reluctantly accepted a move to the Montreal office with Joan and son, Trevor, born in February, 1957. Daughter, Heather was born shortly after in June, 1960; Scott in January, 1962 and Gregory in May, 1967.
The move back to the head office in Toronto was in 1969 where David took on increasingly senior roles. During his professional life, David took on many outside responsibilities, including: Governor of the Toronto Stock Exchange; President of the Canadian Club of Toronto; and Board of Trustees of Sunnybrook Medical Centre.
Upon retirement, David put his considerable business and people skills towards a number of charities where his impact was significant. These included: President of Second Harvest and 16 years of involvement with Trent University where he served on several committees including chairing the “For Tomorrow Campaign.” For his service to Trent, he was awarded an honourary Doctor of Laws (LLD) in 1993.
David’s strong faith and love of his churches, Christ Church Deer Park (Toronto) and Christ Church Gregory (Muskoka), lead him to community work supporting the churches and their congregations. He spent countless hours calling on members of the community who were isolated and in need of support. This work for others continued until his final months when he continued to call a long list of people who had come to rely on his wisdom, humour and interest in others.
David’s family and Church were what brought him love, contentment, happiness and a true feeling of joy.
A funeral will be held at Christ Church Deer Park, 1570 Yonge Street, Toronto at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31st. A reception will follow. In David’s memory, please feel free to wear something colourful as was his style.
