Monique and family: So sad to learn of Bill's passing. A truly great Canadian. Thank you for sharing Bill with all of us. I first met Bill when I moved to Toronto with KPMG in 1984. Bill was heading up G E Canada at that time. Fortunately for me our paths crossed many times thereafter. I will always remember Bill as a Board Member stating " I'm just a farmer. Could you please explain that to me again." A shot across the bow. Bill was a leader in every sense of the word. . He lived a long and productive life. You must have been and continue to be proud of his accomplishments. May he rest in peace.

Bill was Chairman and CEO when I joined GE Canada in 1989, initially on a senior-level executive exchange program from the federal government. He, with then Vice Chairman Bob Gillespie, was instrumental in supporting my transition from government to business, took time to brief me on key facts and people that I should know, and was very encouraging when I suggested the need for a government relations function in the company. It was a time of transformational change as GE Canada became direct-connected to the U.S. parent. I will always remember Bill as a highly respected business leader, a brilliant strategist, a passionate farmer, and a mentor and friend. I was glad that I was able to seek his advice and to maintain our relationship after we both retired. My sincere condolences go out to Monique and the family. They will take comfort, I know, in the knowledge that Bill led a full, happy, and successful life.

Bill was an exceptional person and a splendid contributor to this country. As head of Manulife many years ago, he was very generous to a graduate student of mine whose research was on the impact of computering - Manulife had a large computer very early on in computing history and allowed this student access to study its impact. That generosity extended in many ways including his work with the CIAR and Fraser Mustard where his support and brainpower made a significant difference. I met him often over many years in different ways and his warmth and friendship never changed. I admired him greatly.
My sympathies to his family and many colleagues.

I was fortunate to work at GE Canada when Bill was CEO and when he retired. He was a great Business Person and mentor. He was ahead of his time in so many areas - customer service, diversity, etc. As a young woman, I was never held back on Bill’s watch - in fact was given many opportunities. This family, many of us also will mourn his loss and keep his memory alive.

To Monique and family our condolences on Bill's passing. I know he will be missed. I will miss him.
I first met Bill in 1967 at a BTC dinner as a new Finance Trainee. Our association spanned more that 50 years. He was a mentor, a colleaque, my Boss (twice) and a great friend. He had a big hand in my career at CGE and GE Canada which lasted some 23 years. In my post GE days he was always availabe for advise and guidance. We got together regularly over the years. He was a class guy and I very much respected his opinion and judgement.
May he RIP.

Last memo to Bill,
Bill, when you became CEO also of Latin America, you agreed that I can add the region to my Canadian EHS portfolio. I debriefed you after retuning from each visit, and was amazed at your ready involvement by calling the site leaders to ensure the fixes were being closed out, which eventually resulted in some of the best performances globally. Hanson was thrilled that, even as a summer intern, you dialogued with him in your Commerce Court office on Corporate commercial law. And the work we did with the Conference Board on Health Care helped Canada upgrade its delivery programs. I was privileged to be in your team, as you also gave a lot of air cover with the new stuff.
Rest in peace, as you did the work assigned by the Lord with humility and warmth.
Peace to Monique and your families during a difficult time of loss.
