PERRIN LEWIS

May 18, 1947 - February 8, 2023

Following a short illness, Perrin left us as gently and deliberately as he had lived. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Leone Earls; by his daughters, Kathleen (Joe) and Signe; by his granddaughter, Ingrid; by his siblings, Flora (Robert), Vaughan (Maria Elena) and Alistair (Nina); his sister-in-law, Lynne; and the small coterie of devoted friends and family who were a balm during the difficult years since his stroke.

Perrin received degrees from the University of British Columbia (BA) and the University of Wisconsin-Madison (MA), after which he embarked on a long career as an economist at the Bank of Nova Scotia. Perrin thought with a strongly synthesizing intelligence across a tremendous range of topics; he told family, friends and colleagues more about the world than seemed possible and remained a curious, engaged reader and thinker until the end of his life. A lifelong humorist, Perrin refracted everyday events through the prism of his wit with irreverence and warmth. Although he faced the pressures of scarcity in his youth, those close to Perrin experienced abundance, ease and unstinting support. He was a dear, dear man and he will be dearly missed.

Donations in Perrin’s memory may be made to Kensington Gardens, where he received loving care in the last 17 years of his life, and to Médecins Sans Frontières.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
