William Wilson

Obituary of William Robert Wilson

William (Bill) Wilson passed away at his home in Toronto on February 1, 2023. He was born in Toronto to Mildred Mary Estelle Petrie and Dr. William Hamilton Wilson on June 13, 1937 and was their only child.

Following graduation from University of Toronto Schools in 1956, he worked for Kodak Canada, which introduced him to the world of photography. He became an avid photographer, processing the images in a room of his house. The trappings of Canadian railways were a source of immense pleasure throughout his life. He travelled frequently across Canada by train savouring the leisurely pace and capturing each experience on film. He also enjoyed ship travel, sailing to Europe on numerous occasions aboard the QE2.  That said, his favourite travels were the repeated sailings of the Mississippi on the Delta Queen with his mother. He was an oenophile and travelled extensively to famous vineyards, particularly in France. His knowledge about wine production and grape varieties was profound and he provided sage advice on hidden gems to buy.

While he never married, family was an important part of his life. He greatly enjoyed the warmth and bustle of family events and reached out to family members going through a difficult patch in their life. He is survived by his cousins, Alexander (Sandy) Logan, James Petrie, Julie Leggatt and their extended families. He will be missed by all who enjoyed his eccentricities including the families of cousins who preceded him in death (Jane Whitmore, Ann Plunkett, David Logan, Ian Logan, Brian Hawkins). A private interment will take place at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto. Donations in Bill’s name may be made to a charity of your choice.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
