Hello - I recently heard of David's passing. I work in the claims department FCT and we were clients of David's for many years. David was diligent and thoughtful and always gave his best for our insureds. More than that he was a pleasure to work with and you got the impression that he cared for everyone he worked with on a human level.

I met David perhaps a dozen years ago while volunteering together at the Ontario Bar Association. He was kind, witty, bright, engaging and compassionate. He was a leading member of our profession and his commitment to the law and the administration of justice was exemplary. We kept in touch over the years, and I am thankful for the opportunity to have known him. I am very sorry to hear about his passing and hope that memories of David are a blessing to you all in this difficult time, and always.

Very sad to hear of the passing of Ace. Lived (off and on) with him and the other UTS boys (I was the outsider) at 74 Division at Queens in 71/72 and always loved his quiet humour. Lost touch with him since then but will always have fond memories of our times there. Gone way too soon my friend.

This is a photo of Ace, Ian Ross, Pete Martin, and myself at San Onofre beach in the summer of 1972, Sadly two of us have passed on.
In the summer of 1972, the boys went on an epic road trip. We bought a 1962 Oldsmobile 98 from Ian Ross’s great uncle for $300! Two of the boys have left us, Ian & Ace. It was a life changing trip. Stopped at gun point in Wyoming for a broken taillight thanks to being rear ended by a Nevada car. Staying in a hotel in San Francisco, four guys, two beds. When we asked where to go for fun the front desk immediately guided us to Castro Street. While in line for a club we kind of noticed that the lineup was exclusively male. A kind individual suggested that we were in the wrong area and guided us to a more appropriate club. We were wearing our football jerseys. We went to a Giant’s game with an awesome post game party in a local pub that somehow never ended. Free pours from the taps and spigots. I have no idea how we got back to the hotel, but it was a short sleep. Somehow the following evening we found our way into an art dealer. They had artists impressions of Salvador Dali’s Define Inferno print sequence. We each bought prints. I bought the head pieces, Beatrice, and Dante. In my living room today. 20-year-olds buying art in San Fran! When the payment was made the dealer sent us the prints.
Leaving San Fran we went south, The picture is from San Onofre Beach close to the summer White House for Tricky Dick. From there we went to Disney Land, were targeted by the “attitude inspectors” for our long hair. Actually, we had severe hair cuts in TO knowing the border issues. Ian & I were on a ride when one of the attitude inspectors jumped on the back of our car looking for illicit stimulants. Leaving Disney Land, we drove to Los Vegas overnight. Stopping outside around 2 am for refreshment then hitting Caesar’s Palace. We dialed in on the nickel slots. There was a high stakes card game at the heart of the casino. Totally controlled, perimeter closed, gents in black tie, gals in gowns and guards in towers with pump shot guns.
I should mention that we were also stopped at gunpoint in Ontario California for a u turn (my fault). An epic trip.
Ace’s Dad died young. Without the transfer payment system that we went to UTS on he wouldn’t have been given the opportunity for an elite education. Any appetite for funding an Ace Decker Bursary? He’s one of the multitude of our old boys who benefited from an admissions system that ignored means and rewarded talent. Let me know and I’ll run point with the school.
Emotionally this is tough. I will be at the service and the Abbott. Thanks, Harv for being the glue.

I am a partner at Beard Winter and have known David for many years. Over the last several years my office was a few doors from David's office and we chatted on a regular basis. David was a very kind, funny, thoughtful, smart and gentle person. I spoke with David at some length when he was in the office a few days before his heart attack. David was looking forward to his imminent retirement and the possibility of moving to Prince Edward county to enjoy his retirement with his wife. We chatted about many things over the years and with David I sensed that his family was always the centre of his life. I know that he especially treasured the travels with his wife and their walks. I want to extend my sincere condolences to all of David's family at this very difficult time.
