I was fortunate to work with Alan at Rogers Communications Inc for almost a decade. Alan became CFO shortly after I joined RCI and I swiftly began to understand the depths of his talent, character and insights. Alan became—and remains for me—one of the most incisive people I have ever encountered. If I was grappling with a problem, it was Alan’s judgement that I sought. Equally, I knew I could count on his sly and brilliant sense of humour to lend perspective on matters large and small. The image of Alan that will remain for me is him delivering (with a twinkle in his eye) one of his famous “Top 10” lists at our frequent RCI gatherings. Always original, never hurtful and incredibly funny. Ruth and Susan, his deep love of family was alway apparent to me. I am grateful to have known Alan and send my deepest condolences for your loss. I was fortunate enough to work for Alan when I was at Rogers. He was one of the greatest persons to work for, he has more integrity than anyone I ever met. In my opinion , working with Ted and his team he helped turn this company totally around from Junk bond to positive cash flow and paying dividends. I doubt that a single person that was at RCI would disagree!. He was witty, he absolutely loved his family and cherished his daughter (who gave the most touching tribute at his funeral today). I am truly saddened by his passing and fortunate to have been in his presence! Bruce Melhuish

I worked with Alan for many years and, when I left in 1996, he assumed my role as CFO of Rogers. He was a remarkable man in many ways. I knew he would be perfect for the role and much more. And he was. Always cheerful, always witty, yet such an incisive mind. He will be missed by all who were fortunate to know him.

Ruth and Susan: I'm very sorry for the loss of Alan whom I met shortly after he joined Rogers in 1990. Alan and i shared a common interest in Horses and Airplanes and discussed both regularly-he was a great Man of silent power, he showed generosity and kindness always. I will miss him dearly-may he rest in peace. Best, David .

I had the pleasure and good fortune to be Alan’s partner at Thorne Ernst & Whinney. After he joined Rogers we remained connected as client and advisor. Alan was sch a smart and wise man, yet so humble. It is with great sadness that I read of his passing. I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to his family. I will always remember him fondly.
