I was so very sad to hear of Bills passing. I like to think of him and Jim sitting up in heaven playing a game of crib and having a beer together. We have so many wonderful memories of a 50+ year friendship and part of that a working relationship for Jim.
I bet they are still sharing amazing fishing stories together too. It is so hard to let these people in our lives go but the comfort comes from knowing such special people.
Carole my love goes out to you and your family at this very hard time. Celebrate his life today as it was a very good one.
I so wish is could be there for you.

Dear Carole and Sears family. So very sorry to hear of Bills passing. I will greatly miss our chats when he came into the office. Always reminiscing on how the village has changed since he was a kid, common Ridley friends, catching up on the squash world and who I’ve been playing and always got updated on his garden up in Manitoulin. We eventually got down to dentistry. Bill was one of a kind who always looked u in the eye while shaking your hand firmly. Hope all your great memories will help you during this time. Paul.

I was only recently thinking of Bill when viewing some pictures of the beautiful new Ridley squash facility about which Bill would have been immensely pleased. Actually, I first met Bill on a squash court some 25 years ago. I soon marvelled at the way in which Bill's unique personal universe of skills and passions was seemlessly blended with an abiding genuine interest and enjoyment of other people. We quickly became friends. Being 10 years my senior, my good times with Bill also included elements of inspiration, guidance and valuable social learning opportunities, often offered through example, as was his way. For me, Bill's influence has endurred and I remain thankful to have known him. I was very sad to learn of his death and know Bill will be sorely missed, but also fondly remembered, by his close family and by everyone else who knew him.

I worked with Bill both at Sears Limited and Heidelberg Canada and have always had a lot of respect for him both as a leader and a person. I always found him honest and straight with people and he expected the same from them.
He was comfortable talking with anyone and seldom let opportunities pass him by.
I remember him talking about a pilot he met in Edmonton that was flying a load of cargo to a mining camp above the Arctic circle and asked he he could join him for the flight, It was a great experience for him.
I enjoyed meeting him and a couple of other retirees from Heidelberg Canada for lunch a couple of times and reminiscing about the past and talking about what we were doing at that point.
He will be missed but certainly led a full and enjoyable life.

I met Bill, Carole and little Tommy in 1980 when I arrived from England - to help take care of Tommy. Bill picked me up from the airport in his massive navy Lincoln Continental. I'd never seen such a huge car. Bill was kind, generous and very welcoming and he told me that we would soon be going to Palm Springs... wow .. what a welcome to Canada! I thoroughly enjoyed my time with them all and I also enjoyed my summer visit to Manitoulin Island. It was fun watching Bill in his mini bulldozer moving sand around.
He looked like he was having a great time. I also remember his red Ferrari. It's been over 40 years now and every year Carole has sent me the family photo at Christmas. It's the highlight of my year to see how the children have grown up and then the grandchildren too. Such a lovely family and so many of them too ... My heart breaks for you all. I send my love and hugs and hope the love and happy memories you have of Bill will give you strength over the coming months. I'm so glad you have each other for support. All my love Christine (Kickeen) xxxxxx

Bill remained a formidable presence in the lives of so many print industry professionals. Everyone either knew Bill or knew of him for the decades he ran Sears Limited, then Heidelberg Canada. We will all miss you, Bill, but the memories will never die.
