Obituary of Herta Freuer
(née Betker)
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Herta Freuer. She passed away peacefully at Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto on December 24, 2022.
There are so many lessons to learn from a strong woman like Herta. A survivor of World War II, she immigrated to Canada in the 1950’s to join her husband Hasso and together they worked hard to build a new life in Canada. She was a loyal friend, wife, sister, and aunt. She was devoted to the dress shop in which she worked until well after retirement, always perfectly put together and ready to give fashion advice. She loved travelling, gardening, staying active, cooking and getting together with friends. Even though she battled many rounds of lymphoma cancer, she was a fighter and didn’t give up, she continued to walk everyday and believed she could get better. She will be greatly missed by her family and by her many friends.
She is pre-deceased by her husband Hasso and older sister Walli and will always be loved by her “kids” Kaija, Alex and their children: Arturo, Clara, and Celeste.
We wish to thank all the staff at North York General Hospital and Sunnybrook Hospital Palliative Care for their compassionate care.
A celebration of life will take place at 2 pm on Saturday January 7, 2023 at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville).
