Aida Haslip

Obituary of Aida Haslip

Aida, aged 99, passed away peacefully, on December 17, 2022.

Adored wife of Harold Monte (deceased). Beloved mother of Paul (Karen) and Candace (David). Cherished grandmother of Sean, Connor (Emma), Harry (Luiza), and Jagger.

Aida, named after her father’s favourite opera, was born in Nova Scotia. Her parents immigrated from Asolo, Italy. She was the eldest of three and spent her formative years growing up in Hamilton.

Aida excelled at languages and history, but left school early to join the workforce in order to support the family, ensuring that her brothers had an opportunity for higher education. An incredible sacrifice.

She married Monte in 1948, and they eventually settled in Don Mills to raise their family. They were great travellers and one of the first in their neighbourhood to fly to Europe in the mid-sixties. They were in London when Carnaby Street was in full swing.

Aida and Monte were avid bridge players and longtime patrons of the arts and theatre.

Aida rejoined the workforce in the late sixties, working for two decades at the Ontario Science Centre, serving as executive assistant to the Director of Personnel. When she retired in 1988, her four grandchildren became the focus of her life.

Her secret to life:

“Everything in moderation.”

A memorial service will take place on Thursday, December 22nd at 11:00 a.m. at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) with a gathering to take place after the service.
