Obituary of Mary Cecily Foss

Mary Cecily Foss (nee Fox)   April 6, 1925-Dec. 12, 2022

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother passed away at the age of 97 after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Dick, who died in 2008. She will be sadly missed by her two children Lindsay (Bill) and Rick (Ghislaine), her grandchildren Michael, Tim (Yuko), David (Jordan) Lauren (Will), Jordan (Annie), Ilana (Darian), Arianne (Paul), and her great grandchildren Carter, Hanna, Mika, Louis, Riley and Azuli.

Born to Jim and Rosemary Fox, Mary Cecily Fox was the 5th of 6 children. She embodied the qualities of her parents, the charitable thoughtfulness of her mother and the hardworking humble excellence of her father. She attended Sacred Heart Convent and after graduating, she worked for the Bank of Montreal. Her weekends were often spent riding on a motorcycle up to St. Adele in the summer and skiing in the winter with her friends in St. Sauveur.

She met her future husband, Dick Foss, at Air Force House where she volunteered during the War. They married in 1949 and a year later she gave birth to her daughter Lindsay. By Autumn 1953 Rick was born and in 1954 the young family moved to Calcutta, India, where Dick had been transferred in his job with Alcan. A young mother with two children, she met the challenge of living in a foreign land keeping her family healthy and safe. While there, she supported Mother Teresa work with the leper clinic and orphanage.

Dick was transferred to Tokyo, Japan four years later, where sheembraced the culture, learning Ikebana, the art of Japanese flower arranging and sumie painting.

Moving back to Montreal in the 60s, she volunteered at the Royal Victoria Hospital, worked with disabled children and delivered Meals on Wheels. Cecily and Dick moved to Toronto in 1976 where she continued her volunteer work, always making time for her beloved grandchildren. She loved and supported their musical and hockey endeavors.

She always made an effort to stay in touch even when they lived far away.

Cecily lived a loving and generous life, touching everyone who knew her
