Bonnie Eagan

Obituary of Bonnie Louise Eagan

Bonnie, aged 76, died in Toronto, on Friday, November 11, 2022, with her two children by her side. She was born on July 14, 1946 to Hugh and Olive MacNeil in Halifax, NS. Bonnie is survived by her three sisters, Brenda Noftell, Ann MacNeil, and Mary Shields (Dan Shields); ex-husband Robert Eagan; her two children, Jonathan Eagan (Wenna Doig) and Stephanie Hurst (Darrell Hurst); and three grandchildren, Eli, Finley, and Penelope (Poppy) Hurst.

Bonnie was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She dearly loved and protected her family and friends, always happy to give someone a place to stay or a helping hand whenever she could.

Bonnie was an intelligent, sharp, independent woman. When her children were school-age, she returned to school, obtained her Chartered General Accountant designation, and began a rewarding career in finance, retiring from the Federal Government of Canada. Being a military wife of 24 years, she embraced the life of a traveller - living in Ottawa, Winnipeg and a glorious four years in Germany, where she was able to see much of Europe with her family.

Bonnie increasingly struggled with her health in her final years, but was always more concerned about her family being upset than her suffering. During COVID, she made the hard decision to leave her home in Ottawa to embrace a new life in Toronto.  This allowed her to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren, giving them an opportunity to build memories of their grandmother that will last their lifetimes. A celebration of life will be held in Ottawa at the Canal Ritz Restaurant, 375 Queen Elizabeth Driveway, on Saturday, November 26, 2022 between 2:30 – 5:30 p.m.
