Obituary of Doreen Wilson
EVA DOREEN WILSON
Family by her side, Doreen died peacefully at the age of 96 on November 6, 2022. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bob (2009). Loving mother of Laurie (Gillian), Marcia, and Deirdre (Tim). Cherished grandma to Hannah, Derek, Marc, André, Hayden, Luke and their partners. Proud great-grandma to five. Predeceased by her dear sisters Ethel and Bernice.
Doreen met her soul mate Bob at North Toronto Collegiate when they were 16. Doreen worked as a lab assistant before marrying Bob in 1947. Together they moved to Montreal. Theirs was a remarkable 61-year marriage, filled with mutual love and respect and a shared passion for travel and music.
As their children grew older, Doreen embarked on a long-held dream of post-secondary education. Over eight years, she dedicated herself to earning a Bachelor degree in English and French literature, two night-courses at a time. After Doreen and Bob returned to Toronto in 1974, she rejoined the work force in the research department of Burns Fry.
Doreen was a lifelong church and community volunteer, a talented soloist, an enthusiastic world traveler and a keen history buff. She was an avid consumer of the printed word, a consummate dinner hostess and a nurturer of family and friendships.
In her final years, Doreen’s incisive mind was sorely damaged by dementia. Despite cognitive and physical incapacities, she maintained her quiet determination and gentle demeanor to the end. We are grateful for the exceptional care she received at Greenview Lodge.
A service will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (at Davisville) on Thursday, November 10th at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow.
