Obituary of William Macpherson Crossin

William (Bill) Macpherson Crossin June 28, 1932 - October 25, 2022

Bill (the Buff) Crossin, 90, of Toronto, Canada, died peacefully on October 25, 2022 after a
battle with dementia.

He was a devoted family man, and is survived by his wife, Linda May (nee Keyser); children
Paddi-Anne (Andrew Metcalfe), Berton (Hilary Thomas), Gillian (Cameron Gunn), and Jenny.
Adored grandfather of Henry and Charlie Metcalfe, and Duncan, Gwendolyn, and Ruby
Gunn. Beloved Uncle to John, Kathy, Betsy, and Bill Allan and the many Keyser cousins.
Born in Toronto, ON to Harry and Maude Crossin and big sister, Mary Ruth (Ginger, Moofie).

Bill was a proud alumnus of Upper Canada College and University of Toronto, Trinity
College, where he made lifelong friends, most notably “Uncle David” (Henry David Ross).
Bill loved to regale all who would listen about their many adventures and antics. His days
with the Toronto Scottish were remembered fondly, most notably when he met the Queen
Mother. Bill loved his days of hijinks at the Health Club, driving too fast, especially in his
1953 green MGTD, racing down the hills of Craigleith, and many summer days and winter
weekends at Le Chalet on Thunder Beach.

Music played an important role in Bill’s life, from singing in various choirs, including the Glee
Club at U of T, listening to Handel’s Messiah each Easter weekend, putting the Catholics to
shame each Sunday as he sang with gusto, and spending many an evening singing his kids
and grandkids off to sleep. Anyone who had the experience of Bill, bundled in his buffalo
coat, whooping for the bagpipes marching past in the Santa Claus parade will know it was a
sight to behold!

His greatest accomplishment in life was as a Father, he always showed his four children
unconditional love. He instilled in his family a love of nature and the outdoors. Bill was the
consummate gentleman, an expansive storyteller, always willing to lend a hand, and loyal
friend, who prioritized his family over everything.

We would like to thank all the caring staff at Baycrest for their kindness, compassion, and
support as they provided excellent care for Bill during his final months. In particular, we’d like
to thank Malbi Hernandez & Lobsang Dolma who loved him like he was theirs.
Please raise a glass to toast Bill in your best Scottish accent “Here’s to us. Who’s like us?
Damn few and them that are, are all dead”.

A private burial will be held for the family.
