I'm very late doing this. Sidney was a neighbourhood friend to me and my husband from the time she moved to Belsize, probably 25 years ago. Jim and she met dog walking, and we retained a casual, dog-walking, occasional dinner relationship for many years. After Jim died in 2018, Sidney and I spent much more time together. We'd have dinner at least once a month, even after we each moved to apartments. I'll miss her honesty, love of life, and adoration of all things, alive -- her garden plants, her dogs, her cats. All good friends to a good human being.

I was surprised and quite saddened on Saturday to read of the passing of Dr. Marquis. In the early 1970s I arrived in Toronto to start my working career, and needing a dentist, my future wife soon introduced me to "Sidney," whose dental practice was nearby - just north of the Bloor Street Medical Arts Building. Dr. Marquis immediately became my dentist, for years thereafter, right up to the time she retired. Visits to Dr. Marquis were never stressful. I could actually look forward to my drive into mid-town Toronto to see her - and to say 'Hello' to her sister Judy. I remember Dr. Marquis would often mutter "Boring...." as she inspected my teeth..... and then she'd send me on my way for another year. I also remember her telling me about the house she had just bought near Eglinton Ave., and the racoon that had taken up residence in the garage there. I was sad to learn Dr. Marquis had retired, when I phoned one day several years ago for an appointment and I learned that she had retired the previous week. I feel fortunate to have known Dr. Marquis - I remember her well - and I extend my sincere condolences to family members. Gregory Katchin Cambridge, Ontario

I was very sorry to hear about Dr. Marquis's passing. After being traumatized by another dentist I was referred to Dr. Marquis and I became a patient for many years until moving out of the area. She was a great dentist and a very caring woman. My deepest condolences to her family. Noreen Pockett
