Obituary of Allan Chun Ming Wong
Allan Chun Ming Wong was born on March 7, 1950 in Hong Kong to loving parents. His father was a fisherman and captained many vessels. Allan and his five siblings, Wayland, Andy, Eddie, Joanna and Beatrice, would always wait eagerly by the window of their building, which was close to the water, to see their father sail in. Allan’s mother would often take in and care for children or families of other sailors in their small flat. On the side, she would dry fish along the shore to sell. This left a strong impression on Allan as a young child, leading to his career as an entrepreneur and more importantly instilling within him the importance of family and the value of being a decent and kind person.
He left Hong Kong to pursue an education in Canada. After spending a year at Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, he transferred to the University of Toronto. Despite wanting to focus only on studying, one fateful snow storm in Montreal led Allan to Virginia. They began dating and spent all their time together. Whether he was working at the CNE, as a waiter, or delivering pizza, she was always with him. With her help in school, he earned a full scholarship to get his MBA from the University of Toronto. Allan loved his first job out of school as a management trainee at Regal Greetings and Gifts and worked his way up in the company. He eventually left to start a trading business of his own, and throughout the years, with Virginia by his side, he built many successful businesses.
During that time, Allan and Virginia had three children: Karman, Karen and Steven. They lived in a quaint town called Colts Neck in New Jersey, where they met many lifelong friends. He enjoyed traveling and experiencing good food all over the world.
Along the way, Allan experienced success and failure. He always lived with the motto to work hard and have positive energy. And if you fall along the way, pick yourself up, be brave and continue moving forward. Dealing with cancer was no different. He worked hard to overcome it with an unrelenting positive attitude, but at the same time, tried to understand it and then eventually made peace with it.
He was proudest of his children and his grandchildren: Olivia, Karla, Lila, Parker, Nora, Rudi, Bowie and Reagan. Most of all, he was thankful for his wife Virginia for blessing him with these gifts.
Like his father, Allan loved the water. The final place he chose to live overlooked the water. He passed away peacefully in Toronto.
