Obituary of J. Barry Canning
It is with great sadness that the family of Barry Canning announces his peaceful passing at home on August 15, 2022 at the age of 92, with his wife Lydia by his side. He encouraged and supported Lydia, his wife of almost 49 years, in everything she did. He was proud of and inspired his children Julianne (deceased), Scott, Matthew (Cynthia) and Tonya. He was always interested in what his grandchildren Nathan, Finn and Patrick were up to and enjoyed spending time with them. His extended family and friends never had to question whether he would help if asked, and he especially enjoyed getting together with them.
Barry’s career in real estate development and property management with ManuLife, of which he is a member of their Quarter Century Club, and Canadian Pacific Pension Investment Management, gave him the opportunity to oversee the construction of The Rockhill Apartments in Montreal, and ManuLife Centre and 95 Wellington Street West in Toronto. Barry is an accredited real estate appraiser and a Life Member of BOMA Toronto.
Throughout his journey with Parkinson’s Disease Barry never lost his wonderful sense of humour nor his beautiful welcoming smile, and he never gave up hope. This loving man will be missed by all his family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, August 19th. A private funeral and interment will be held on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Michael J Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research Canada (michaeljfox.org) or a charity of your choice, would be most welcome. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
