Obituary of Wayne McLeod
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Malcolm Ernest McLeod, CA, FCA, MBA in Toronto on July 28, 2022, in his 83rd year. Wayne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 28, 1939, to Malcolm and Lily (nee Cameron) McLeod. He leaves his very dearly beloved wife of 62 years and lifelong best friend, Beverley Mary McLeod (nee Black), his daughters Heather (Liam (Bill) Kilmurray), Pamela (Brian Robinson), and his beloved grandchildren Liam and Finnegan Kilmurray, and Noelle, Reese and Oliver Vitalis, whom he enjoyed so much and was so proud of. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn (Garth James), in-laws Maureen Olson and Milt Black, and their families, who were all so dear to him.
Wayne was the Outstanding Graduate of the Chartered Accountancy program at the University of Manitoba in 1961 and obtained his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1965. He moved to Toronto in 1968 and became the then-youngest partner ever named to Thorne Riddell (now KPMG) in 1968, and while there was a member of the CICA's Audit Research Committee for three years. He went on to a thriving career as President and CEO of CCL Industries, from 1980 to 1999, and grew the company to sales of 1.7 billion with 37 plants around the world. During his career and long retirement, he sat on many boards and committees in the private sector (Morguard Corporation, AMJ Campbell Co., Atlas Cold Storage, Richards Packaging, Turbo Genset Inc. and Energenius Inc) and not-for-profit sectors (a Rotarian, past President of the Granite Club, Chairman of the Board of North York General Hospital; Board Member of the Seeing Eye Canada, and Warden at St. John's York Mills Church), among many others. He was much admired in the Canadian and international business worlds and among community organizations for his astute and innovative thinking, leadership and collaborative style, but most of all, for his kindness, generosity and good humour.
On a personal level, he was a life-long sports enthusiast, watching his Toronto teams until the very end. He was the greatest fan and supporter of the sports teams, dance troupes, choirs, plays and other activities all of his children and grandchildren were involved in. He was never too busy or too far away to attend their events. He loved to travel and saw much of the world with his family and particularly his wife, Bev. Some of his happiest days were spent with family and friends in Beaverton at Lake Simcoe. He always saw the best in people, wanted to learn about them and encouraged them to be their best. His larger-than-life, energetic, happy, vivacious, kind, positive, encouraging and funny personality will be greatly missed by all he touched.

Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Ave, Toronto on Wednesday, August 3 from 2 - 4 p.m. The funeral will be held at St John’s York Mills Anglican Church, 19 Don Ridge Road on Thursday August 4, 2022, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to North York General Hospital, St. John’s York Mills Church or The Seeing Eye.
