Lisa MacLaren

Obituary of Lisa Adele MacLaren

LISA ADELE MACLAREN (nee HANDFORD)
February 25, 1957 – July 20, 2022

With profound sadness, Lisa’s family announces her passing at Sunnybrook Hospital after a determined, valiant, and heroic 17-year battle with cancer.

Lisa leaves behind her husband Bruce and her two adored children, Britlyn and Braeden. She is survived by siblings Jania Israelson (Don), Vicky Stacey (Rod) and Blake Handford (Helen) of British Columbia. We also would like to express our utmost love and appreciation to Lisa’s dedicated and loving caregiver Vangie, who held her hand and stayed by her side for the last 12 years.

Born in Vancouver, B.C., Lisa later settled in Toronto, where she established her family and a successful career with the Royal Bank of Canada. Lisa was an avid golfer and tennis player as a member of the Donalda Club, where she had many close friendships. Lisa was also a member of Mansfield Ski Club and an accomplished skier. One of Lisa’s fondest memories was when she and Bruce lived in London, England, where they enjoyed precious moments watching the deer in Richmond Park and travelling the world together, something they both cherished.

Most importantly, Lisa would wish to be remembered for her immense love of family and her self-defining role as a “super mom” to her miracle children, Britlyn and Braeden. Lisa was entirely devoted to them; seeing her robbed of actively participating in their young lives for many years has been heartbreaking. For those closest to Lisa in her younger and healthier years, she will be remembered for her strength, kind-heartedness, and dedication to her children.

Respecting Lisa’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a Memorial reception for friends and loved ones will be held at a later date.  To honour Lisa, if you have a favourite story or memory that you would like to share, please do so by contacting her son Braeden (braedenmaclaren@outlook.com).
In lieu of flowers, we would ask that you please consider making a donation to The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation (https://supportthepmcf.ca/ui/DonateNow/donations/start).  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
