Obituary of John Roland Harris
JOHN ROLAND HARRIS
May 13, 1948 - July 14, 2022
On Thursday, July 14, John passed away in his home, in Toronto, surrounded by family. Son of the late Roland and Dae (Lyon) Harris. He leaves the love of his life, Diane; step-children, Tammy-Lee (Dan) McGregor and David Springett; his grandchildren, Daniel, Bailey, Kyle, Sarah and Caitlyn; and great-granddaughter, Moira - each one being a great source of pride and purpose. Brother to Molly Harris Campbell; uncle to James Campbell III (Shana); and grand-uncle to James IV.
John attended Whitney School, UTS, St. Andrews, Neuchâtel Junior College, University of Toronto and George Brown Collegiate. He was a talented musician and had a great appreciation for the English language. It was not beneath him to find humour in its use. His wit and humour was with him until his last moments. His greatest joys came with time spent with family. He took it upon himself to video every family event and would be found with camera in hand, making him the family historian. He was the voice of reason, delivered with care and kindness for all things important. He had a brilliant mind and never lost his curiosity in things past, present or future which lead to many wonderful conversations, especially with the younger ones in the family. His humility, his kindness and his great strength of will is forever etched in our memories.
He lived simply and with integrity. To quote his grandfather, R.C. Harris, "Let no ostentation mark his tranquil way. His duties all discharged without display.”
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the extended members of the family, "the Philips’" for the extra love and support shown during these last weeks. Special acknowledgements to Dr. R. Singal and Dr. J. Bin of Michael Garron Hospital and Dr. E. Schneider of Mount Sinai Hospital.
A celebration of John’s life will be held at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) on Thursday, July 28, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Remembrances will be delivered at 6:30 p.m.
