My thoughts are with the Wrigley family as they remember the life of Deric, a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. I was fortunate enough to have Deric as my godfather thanks to his close friendship with my father, John Greaves. They were fellow medical students at Guy's Hospital in London during WW2 and were together when the hospital was evacuated to Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, where my parents met. After Deric's move to Canada I met him only a few times and only as a child, so it has been fascinating to learn more of his personality from the tributes of others. But growing up, it was a delight to receive his letters from Montreal and St John's. I know my parents, John and Easta, spent some happy times with Deric and Ruth: in 1993 when they visited Lake Simco, in Sandwich in Kent where my parents lived, possibly also in France where my parents had a holiday home. Beyond their commitment to medicine, many aspects of Deric's character clearly chimed with my father's, particularly the love of practical tinkering, sailing and sense of humour.

My heartfelt sympathy to Ruth and her loving family for their loss of a genuinely gentle man.
Sandy and I have been great friends since our early school days on Montreal, and were reunited at school in Toronto when the family returned from Nfld. I had many occasions to get to know the Wrigley family and have fond memories of Ruth and Deric's hospitality.
It was a pleasure to have known Deric, enjoying his wonderful sense of humour, and appreciating his kind interest in my life and that of my parents, John and Libby Davis.
He will be greatly missed,

Our sincerest condolences to Mrs. Wrigley (Ruth), Sue, Sandy and Reed, Jonathan and Kevin and Linda and Mike on the loss of your husband, father and grandfather. Dr. Wrigley (Deric) will be sorely missed but I hope that memories of happy times will lift your spirits and carry you through this sad time.
I have so many fond memories of Dr. Wrigley, and being best friends with Sandy, I spent a lot of time at her home and with the Wrigley family. I remember going on many picnics by the sea and Dr. Wrigley would always find a good spot for us to sit, and then we would go exploring. I had the good fortune of camping across Newfoundland with the Wrigleys and experiencing first hand, Dr. Wrigley's "inventor" side as he propped up rain canopies or fashioned some tool for cooking over the campfire.
He had a wonderful sense of humour that never waned and was a loving and devoted father and I'm sure, a caring grandfather.
It was such a blessing that the entire family was with him during his last days and no doubt that was a huge comfort for him.
