Obituary of Michael Gordon Westmore

MICHAEL GORDON WESTMORE

December 31, 1941 – May 25, 2022

With sadness we announce that Michael died peacefully and painlessly, at the Rekai Centre, Sherbourne Place, in his 81st year, after lengthy and valiant battles with kidney and lung disease.  He was predeceased by his parents, George and Doris, and his brother, Peter, all of the Isle of Wight, and his beloved spouse, John D. (Jack) Stennett of Toronto, who died in 2004.

Michael was born on the Isle of Wight and commuted between there and Canada for a few years in the 1990s.  He moved to Canada permanently in the early 2000s to be with Jack.  Michael became totally blind at about that time.  He was an inspiration to his many friends, due to his positive attitude on life despite his seemingly overwhelming disabilities.  With the assistance of his close friends, he was able to live independently until last November.

At Michael’s request, there will be no funeral.  There will be a get-together later in the year to celebrate his life.

If desired, donations in Michael’s memory can be made to the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation, the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, Trinity College at the University of Toronto, or to the Rekai Centre, Sherbourne Place.  Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
