Barbara Goldring

Obituary of Barbara Goldring

Dorothy Barbara Goldring (nee Dowd)

August 14, 1931 - May 16, 2022

On May 16, 2022, Barbara, the daughter of Dr. Kenneth and Dorothy Dowd of Montreal, passed away peacefully in Toronto.   She leaves behind her sister, Sherrill Gordon and family, her children, Blake (Belinda), Jane McCabe (Paul), Bryce (Franca), and Judy and her 11 grandchildren, Georgina, Arabella, Serena, Caitlin, Kylie (Jesse Finn), Megan (Peter Sheahan), Shannon, Ryan, Sabrina, Rianna and Raedyn and two great-granddaughters, Maeve and Ruthie.  Barbara is predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Dr. C. Warren Goldring (2009), and her daughter, Jill C. Lococo (2001).

Born in Montreal, Quebec, Barbara attended Miss Edgar’s and Miss Cramp’s School for girls.   Barbara went on to become a Head Nurse at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, a fact that she would share with everyone who would cross her path throughout her life.

It was on a ski hill in the Laurentians where she met Warren Goldring, and as they say, the rest is history. Following her marriage to Warren in 1953, they spent one year in London, England, while Warren attended the London School of Economics.  This year was fondly remembered and proved to be the foundation for their long and happy marriage of 56 years.   Moving back to Toronto, Barbara raised the family, did many volunteer activities, and allowed Warren to focus on building his successful global asset management business, AGF Management Limited.

As a collector of many things, Barbara’s greatest joy was to visit local markets and speak with artisans and artists.  She loved good conversation whether on the telephone or in person.  Barbara also loved a good party.  She and Warren enjoyed travelling annually to visit her beloved sister, Sherrill, in Montreal and to Longboat Key, Florida where they spent winters every year for close to 50 years.

A monarchist, Barbara admired Queen Elizabeth II and the Royal Family.  She was a proud recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award in recognition of her contributions to the community.   Barbara had a true curiosity about people that fed her enthusiasm for life.   She will be missed by all those who knew her.

Sincere thanks to the members of Amica Bayview Gardens and the excellent professionals at North York General Hospital.
