Obituary of James Campbell Pyper
Jim passed away on Thursday, May 12th at the age of 93.
Born in 1928 in Glasgow, Scotland he was the eldest son of John and Jenny Pyper. He was selected to attend Hutcheson’s Grammar School on scholarship and after doing his National Service in the Royal Artillery went on to study engineering at university. He was an avid rugby player and played for both his school and the Royal Artillery and would cycle with his friends throughout the Highlands. In 1953 he married his childhood sweetheart, Nan.
In 1954 Jim and Nan immigrated to Canada to begin a new life, living in Toronto and Montreal before settling in Brantford, Ontario. After working for others Jim started his own business in 1967, Chil-Con Products Ltd. a supplier of equipment used in the industrial refrigeration industry. Over the years the business thrived and many of Jim and Nan’s favourite memories were the many friends they met in the industry and attending IIAR conferences.
Jim and Nan’s great love was Moody, Maine. After many years of vacationing there they bought land and build their dream home on Tern Lane, a short walk to the beach. After retiring in 1994, Jim and Nan moved to Maine where they spent a dozen wonderful years before moving back to Toronto to be near family. Retirement was also a time for travel, favourites were an annual pre - Christmas trip to London, England and many voyages on Swan Hellenic’s ship Minerva in the Eastern Mediterranean.
He is survived by his adored wife of 69 years and partner in all things, Nan, his son David (Karen) and his grandchildren Andrew and Eric.
