I hadn't heard from Dorothy in quite some time and was dismayed and saddened to find her obituary. I first met her through the kindness of her parents who very kindly gave me a room when I first arrived in Canada as a new immigrant from England in the late 1950's. Although I moved to Colorado, USA some years later Dorothy and I stayed in touch over the years and was always warmly received by her on my infrequent visits to Toronto. She was a fine lady and may she rest in peace.

I was very sad to hear of the death of Dorothy, my mother Margaret’s cousin. They were very fond of each other and had always kept in touch.
I have happy memories of Dorothy visiting our family home in Warmley. She was always very cheerful. Dorothy was also very thoughtful and generous. For many years, she shipped over for us a box of lovely red Canadian apples to arrive in time for Christmas.
Dorothy was always pleased to know our family news. So it has been lovely recently to chat with Dorothy, thanks to Zoom technology, which she embraced - as ever keen to stay up to date and involved.
We will miss her lovely smile and good humour.
My condolences to her family and friends.
God bless you, Dorothy.

Dorothy was the inspiration and the conscience of our Church Board at Bedford Park UC. She kept her faith with enormous conviction. Some time ago, she attended by car from Toronto, the National Conference of the United Church of Canada, that year hosted in St. John's, Newfoundland. At the close of the conference, the ferry from nearby Argentia was waylaid or cancelled. Undaunted, she drove the 9 hour trip 850 km across Newfoundland to the other ferry terminal in Port aux Basque, not to delay her return trip to Toronto. She was a remarkable woman, capable of remarkable accomplishments.
With deep respect for Dorothy and condolences to her family, Rick Coombs.

Very fond memories of Dorothy (my Mother Margaret's cousin)
I had such a warm welcome from her when I lived briefly in Canada in 1970/1971. She was always smiling and so generous with her time and hospitality - a great help in settling me in and introducing me to Canada.
My siblings and I also enjoyed her many visits to Warmley, Bristol - our family home. She was always keen to hear of all our children's pursuits and had a remarkable memory for all the details.
It was so nice in recent months to enjoy Zoom calls with her - so bright and interested in all our news.
Her warm smile and laughter remain in our hearts.
RIP Dorothy xx

I was very saddened to hear of Dorothy’s passing. She was so bright and cheerful that I thought she would go on forever!
I remember when Dorothy came to visit us (my parents, my Great Uncle and my siblings), in Warmley, firstly with Lucy and then on her own. Dorothy was always cheerful and she showed great interest in the extended family.
We kept in touch by phone and cards and more recently by Zoom - it was great seeing someone of her age confidently using new modern technology and it was lovely to be actually able to see her.
Condolences to all her friends and family x RIP

I have fond memories of Dorothy, my mother Margaret's cousin, when she came to visit us in Warmley. We (Mum, Dad and my four sisters) were living there with my Great Uncle Herbert (Nellie's brother). I also met up with her after I had moved to London and she had come over with her good friend Lucy to visit the UK.
Dorothy was always cheerful and interested in what was going on. As in the tribute my sister Hils has posted, we had met up with Dorothy via a Zoom call only a couple of months ago and she was still bright and definitely with it.
Many warm memories of a lovely lady.

I was very sorry to hear of Dorothy's death.
She was my mother's much loved cousin on the English side of the family and I have fond memories of all the times she came to stay with us in Warmley, Bristol.
My fondest memories, however, are from when my newly wed (now departed) husband and I visited Canada back in 1977 and she welcomed us into her home. While we were there we joined Dorothy on several trips to the wonderful Ryde Camp which I remember as clearly and with as much fondness as if it was yesterday. Her kindness and hospitality were amazing.
Only a few weeks ago my brother, sisters and I had a chat with Dorothy on Zoom. She was as cheerful as always and still interested in everything going on in our lives.
She will be greatly missed

DA was a woman of extraordinary faith, vision, determination, courage and strength. She was a great friend to all. I know she will live on in the wind through the trees in Chapel, the sunsets on Ryde Lake and during sing songs. Sending much love to all those who loved her and will miss her.

Condolences to Dorothy's family. I bet she was a wonderful auntie ! So many memories of DA from Ryde Lake Camp. I am so glad I was able to see her at the last Open House. She commanded respect from everyone at camp by just being her authentic, kind self with her beautiful smile. Learned so much from her just by her being a model. Thank you and RIP DA
