Obituary of Alan Raymond Bentley

November 9, 1943 to April 25, 2022

“If the women don’t find you handsome, they should at least find you handy.”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Alan Raymond Bentley, who died peacefully after a long battle with brain cancer.

Alan was a loving father to Bill and Julia, brother to Randall and Marjorie and close friend to Geraldine and Pat.

Born in Bolton, England and Immigrated to Canada with his family at age 11.  Although he left school early, he eventually continued his education and went on to become a Stationary Engineer.  He landed a successful career at Imperial Oil where he worked his way up the corporate ladder.

Alan was a devoted family man, who was well read and held strong morals and values.  He was always keen to lend a hand, tool or advice when needed.

He was an avid woodworker and MacGyver, who could fix anything.  A lover of architecture & design and member of the Charles Rennie Mackintosh Society.

He loved all things cycling.  He was a member of the Queen City Bicycle Club in Toronto and spent many weekends riding the “donut loop” with cycling friends Mike, Sammy and Malcolm.  Family and friends knew not to bother him when the Tour de France or Tour of Spain was on television.

Alan will be forever remembered as a selfless individual with a big heart and a penchant for doing the right thing.

A Celebration of Life and Reception will be held by the family at Humphrey Funeral Home on Sunday, May 15, 2022 from 12:30pm to 4:00pm. The service will be from 1:00pm to 2:00pm followed by a reception from 2:00pm to 4:00pm.
