Obituary of Patricia Joyce Winter

PATRICIA JOYCE WINTER (née Seddon) March 8, 1922 - April 12, 2022 Patricia Joyce Winter (née Seddon) passed away at The Claremont Residence in Toronto, on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at the age of 100. By her side were her loving daughters, Diana Kennedy (Roland), Catherine Dickson (Brian), Angela Boychuk (Brian) and Elizabeth Clarke (Jeffrey). In addition to her sons-in-law, she leaves behind nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two nieces. Patricia (Pat) was the daughter of the late Irene (née Fowler) and Eric Seddon of England, and sister of the late Christopher Seddon of Harare, Zimbabwe. After 58 years of marriage, she was predeceased by her husband, Hereward (Ward) Winter in 2000. Born in Port Said, Egypt and at age eight was sent to boarding school in Ashford, Kent, England. When war broke out in 1939, Pat joined her mother and brother in London, when she met and married Ward Winter, a pilot with the British Royal Air Force. At the end of the war, the young couple set their sights on Bulawayo, Rhodesia. There they enjoyed thirteen wonderful years, but left in 1959 for Toronto. Shortly after their arrival in Canada, they bought an island in Georgian Bay where they built a cottage, which they - together with their daughters and extended family - enjoyed many beautiful summers. They retired to Bobcaygeon, Ontario and it was there that Pat discovered her extraordinary talent as a water painter. Pat regularly enjoyed playing bridge, completing daily crossword puzzles, walking her dog! A voracious reader of both fiction and non-fiction - with an avid interest in social and political history, as well as current events - she wrote formal poetry in her final year. Pat's family would like to extend their very deep gratitude to the staff and medical care professionals at The Claremont in Toronto. Pat's funeral will be held at Toronto's The Church of Saint Timothy 100 Old Orchard Grove, Toronto, ON, M5M 2E2 on Thursday, April 28 at 11:00am.
