When Mom / Patty was a girl, she entertained her family and friends by reciting "The Lion and Albert", as made popular in England by Stanley Holloway ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oaw-savyK0s
I remember her reciting it as an adult to myself and others as well. She loved its irreverent sense of humour.

I never met Kathryn (Patty) Maurice. But I do know one of her daughters (Linda Watson ) well. Linda became an accomplished artist, a superb designer, and a wonderful person. I can only surmise that Linda's success is due in no small part to the influence of her mother.
May her memory be a blessing.

We are passing along our sincere condolences to Patty's family. Our Cornerstone Church community was able to connect with Patty these last few years and we were so blessed by her friendship. She was so incredibly kind, fully of joy and humour, and always reminded us to look for the best in each day. Personally, I loved chatting with Patty on the phone, hearing her amazing stories, and her words of wisdom - I always looked forward to our conversations. We are praying for all who knew and loved sweet Patty!

Linda, condolences on your great loss.
Happily, she never had to live beyond the loss of one of her children
You seemed to indicate her unconditional love.
This poem by Kipling expresses that.
If I were hanged on the highest hill,
Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine!
I know whose love would follow me still,
Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine!
If I were drowned in the deepest sea,
Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine!
I know whose tears would come down to me,
Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine!
If I were damned of body and soul,
I know whose prayers would make me whole,
Mother o' mine, O mother o' mine!

A 2015 photo of Mom, myself and my dog Patina, staying at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto.
And a lovely memory from there: Mom and I were asking the concierge a question and Mom got to telling him about how, in her teens, she and her friend Peggy hunted for autographs from film stars staying at the King Edward, by finding out their room numbers and knocking on their doors. Instead of politely brushing her off as I thought he might, the concierge was absolutely delighted by Mom and asked if we could meet him off duty shortly afterward. He took us to a display of historical photos of the hotel, where he and Mom had an animated conversation about them. Then he took us into the hotel ballroom, which was temporarily closed for renovations, and they talked about all the features that had changed or not since Mom’s youth. The concierge - I’ve forgotten his name, Mom would never have - was fascinated by her stories. One of which was how she and Peggy not only obtained an autograph, but were invited in to have tea with Walter Pigeon in his hotel room. By the time we said good-bye, the concierge had shared with Mom that he was caring for his own mother, who was suffering from cancer with not long to live. It was obvious that not only had he given Mom a memorable experience, he had felt the kind of comfort and empathy from my Mom that she has extended to so many people throughout her life.

Pat was truly an amazing woman, strong, inspiring, encouraging, and trustworthy. She treated me like a daughter, and my daughter as another grandchild. I will cherish the memories we shared, and am grateful to have maintained a friendship with her over the almost 60 years I knew her and the family. I just know she's up in heaven, organizing a trip to somewhere, or acting as the greeter at the gates. Until we meet again, my friend. Much love, Ann.

It's difficult to write anything, here, because I always thought Patty would live beyond me. Her energy, optimism, kindness ... they felt bottomless and genuine. When I think back on my time with her, I can remember nothing but consideration and acceptance and I count myself lucky to have known her.
Much love to all her family, and to those who loved her.
