Obituary of Terrance Alban Wolff
It is with great sadness that the Wolff family announces the passing of their patriarch, Terrance Alban Wolff in his 90th year. Terry was born in Peterborough, Ontario; the son of Cecil Alban Wolff and Jeanne Constance Thorndyke. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, John Thorndyke Wolff. He will be greatly missed by the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Irene Helen Lapointe, as well as his children, Bryon (Rosemary) Wolff, Marc (Sharon) Wolff, and Jeanne (Steve) Withers. Terry will also be dearly missed by his greatest joy, his six grandchildren, Rochelle, Krystien, Brittany, Lindsay, Spencer and Fraser. His legacy will be shared with his great-grandchildren, Abigail, Peter and Emilia.
Terry attended Saint Peter’s Catholic School in Peterborough. As an altar boy at "St. Peter-in-Chains," the Catholic Cathedral in Peterborough, Terry served mass for Bishop John R. MacDonald in the Bishop's private chapel in his home. Bishop MacDonald was transferred to Antigonish, Nova Scotia where he also became Chancellor of Saint Francis Xavier University. Bishop MacDonald returned to Peterborough and encouraged the high school graduates to consider StFX for their university studies. Encouraged, Terry attended StFX, graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree and a Bachelor of Arts Degree. Terry enjoyed his time at StFX, participating in all interclass sports, being an Officer in the Commerce Society, a Member of Parliament, Finance Minister in the model Parliament and Class President. Terry and Irene have been strong supporters of his alma mater over the years. This close tie to StFX continued throughout his life. Terry was involved in every fundraising the University had for over fifty years. He served on the board of governors, was a member of the executive committee, and chaired the investment committee for many years. The university awarded Terry a Doctor of Laws Degree in recognition of his services.
Terry enjoyed a successful career in the financial services field, specializing in corporate finance and leasing. His first job was with the Bank of Nova Scotia, then Industrial Acceptance Corporation, following which he returned to the BNS as President of Scotia Toronto-Dominion Leasing, followed by President of Scotia Leasing. Ten years later he started the Corpfinance Group of Companies. Terry was a real entrepreneur, using innovative technology in each of his companies, making them leaders in their individual fields. He headed the CFI Companies until he retired in 2011, selling the CFI companies to his employees. Terry, Irene and family were members of the Roman Catholic Church, St. Bonaventure’s Church. They were strong supporters of Cardinal Ambrozic and Cardinal Collins. Terry represented both Cardinals on the Board of Providence Healthcare where he was on the Executive Committee, the Finance Committee and Chair of the Pension Committee. Terry also served on the Board of Rosalee Hall and as Chairman of the Equipment Leasing Association of Canada. Terry lived his faith as a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, where he and Irene were members since 2008.
Upon his retirement he and Irene spent their time with their children and grandchildren, whether it was skiing at Collingwood and Quebec; boating and golfing at their cottage on Lake Joseph; or enjoying winters in Naples, Florida. The family wishes to thank the medical staff at the Odette Cancer Centre for the care and compassion they showed Terry over the past months. Terry will be best remembered for three things: his faith, his love of family, and his joy in friends. He will be sadly missed by all.
The family will receive friends at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) from 2:30 – 4:00 and 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 7th. Funeral Mass will be held in St. Bonaventure’s Church, 1300 Leslie Street on Friday at 11:00 a.m.
The family requests that masks be worn at both the visitation and the funeral service.
