Obituary of Jacqueline Joyce Styles
JACQUELINE JOYCE STYLES
(née Frith)
Jackie was born on October 5, 1933 in Hamilton, Ontario to parents Alice and Archibald Frith. Growing up she began her lifelong commitment to helping others through a devotion to caring for her mother and being a loving older sister to Mary Lou. Jackie worked as an Emergency Room nurse in Hamilton and Vancouver before joining Trans Canada Airlines as a flight attendant. She remained in close contact with her TCA friends through Silver Wings, and attended reunions every year.
In 1959 Jackie met and married the love of her life, Geoff, a young Royal Banker, and they embarked on a lifetime of world travel and adventure including five special years living in England. Daughter Leslie arrived in 1961 and son David was born in 1963. Despite the demands from Geoff’s work, Jackie always put her children’s’ needs first, followed closely by their many friends. Famous for their Christmas parties, she and Geoff would send out over 200 Christmas cards each year. As well-known snowbirds in Longboat Key, Florida, Geoff and Jackie established even more great friendships in what became their second home.
As a volunteer for 27 years at Sunnybrook’s Odette Cancer Centre, Jackie helped those suffering with cancer. She also cared deeply for animals and was often seen on York Ridge Road feeding stray cats and finding homes for them, including two of her own. An avid movie lover, Jackie never failed to amaze with her knowledge of films and their stars. She was also rumoured to be a pretty good badminton player. Jackie was an elegant and energetic woman who made a difference in the lives of those that knew her, whether spending afternoons playing bridge, lunching with friends, or spending wonderful times with family.
With her children by her side Jackie passed away peacefully on February 22, 2022 after a short battle with lymphoma. Predeceased by her loving husband, Geoff and sister, Mary Lou (Jim), she will forever be loved by Leslie (Guy) and David (Anna), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her strength and spirit will forever live on in our cherished memories. Heartfelt thanks to her wonderful caregivers at Amica and the Home Concierge service, and her personal physician, Dr. Bradley Kaplansky.
A service for family and friends will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 16th, in St. John’s York Mills Anglican Church, 19 Don Ridge Drive. In Jackie’s memory and her love of animals, donations to your local Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. Condolences may be forwarded through www.humphreymiles.com.
