Obituary of Olive Annette Kirkley
OLIVE ANNETTE KIRKLEY (née MASON)
Olive Kirkley passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 8, 2022, in her 90th year, at Glynnwood Retirement Home in Toronto. She was the beloved wife of Richard who predeceased her in 2020. Loving mother of Paul, Bruce, Terry, Stuart, David, and John. Greatly missed by her eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Olive is predeceased by her siblings Marie, Alan, Rhoda, Stuart, Bruce, and Bernice, and two grandchildren Christopher and Carissa.
Born to a homesteader family near Hinton, Alberta, Olive was crowned Miss Summerland in 1950. She graduated from Victoria Normal School in 1951. She taught in British Columbia and Ontario, served as a bookmobile librarian and operated an antique business in New Brunswick. Olive married RCAF Flight Officer Richard Kirkley in 1952. They lived in multiple locations across Canada, Scotland and Germany, creating a loving home wherever they lived. An avid gardener, Olive created many beautiful gardens, eventually becoming a Master Gardener of Ontario. She was a devout Christian Scientist throughout her life, serving the church in multiple offices. In their later years, she and Richard continued to travel, including living in Florida and Mexico and completing a continental tour of North America in 2014-15.
The family will receive friends at a private visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at the Humphrey Funeral Home A.W. Miles – Newbigging Chapel, 1403 Bayview Avenue (south of Davisville) on Sunday, February 13th.
